Generac standby generators & transfer switches
A standby generator starts on its own when the grid goes down and keeps running as long as it has fuel. For long shutoffs, wells and rural properties, it is often the right answer.
Public Safety Power Shutoffs and winter storms can leave parts of Shasta County without power for days. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch senses the outage, starts, and carries your home within moments, then shuts down when utility power returns.
We install Generac standby generators sized to the loads you actually need, whether that is essential circuits or the whole house. We plan placement for clearances, noise and service access, coordinate natural gas or propane, pour or set the pad, run the trench and conduit, install the transfer switch, and commission the system with you.
What affects the scope
Every property is different, so we price from a site visit rather than a guess. These are the things that change the scope and cost most.
- Generator size and the loads you want covered
- Distance from the panel and the fuel source
- Fuel type and gas line or tank capacity
- Panel condition and whether a panel upgrade is needed
- Site access, slope and setbacks
Generator or battery?
Generators are best for long outages, high loads like wells and large HVAC, and properties where fuel is available. Batteries are quiet, need no fuel and recover with solar. Many homes are best served by one or the other, and some by both. We will walk you through the trade-offs for your property.
Common questions
What size generator do I need?
It depends on what you want to run during an outage. A load assessment tells us whether an essential-loads system or a whole-home system makes sense and what size to choose.
Natural gas or propane?
Both work. Natural gas offers continuous supply where available; propane is common on rural properties and requires adequate tank size for extended runtime.
Do generators need maintenance?
Yes. Standby generators exercise themselves automatically, but they need periodic maintenance: oil, filters, battery and inspection. We explain the schedule at handover.
Do I need a generator if I'm on Redding Electric Utility?
Redding Electric Utility customers generally see fewer planned shutoffs than PG&E areas, but storms and equipment failures still cause outages. It depends on how much an outage affects you.
Battery Backup
A home battery takes over automatically and silently when the power goes out.
Electrical & Backup PowerPanel & Service Upgrades
Your panel decides what your home can safely run.
Defensible SpaceClearing, Grading & Drainage
Beyond Zone Zero, the land around your home needs to slow fire down, drain properly and give equipment and firefighters room to work.
