Panel upgrades, service upgrades & smart panels
Your panel decides what your home can safely run. We replace outdated and hazardous panels, increase service capacity, and install smart panels that let you monitor and manage loads.
Many North State homes still run on 100-amp service or panels that insurers and inspectors flag, including some older brands with known breaker problems. Adding a heat pump, EV charger, battery, generator or shop circuit often means the panel or the service has to change first.
We evaluate your existing panel and service, calculate the loads you have and the ones you are planning, and recommend the right fix: a replacement panel, a capacity increase, a subpanel, or a smart panel that monitors circuits and manages loads. We handle the permit, coordinate the shutdown and reconnection with PG&E or Redding Electric Utility, and schedule the inspection.
What affects the scope
Every property is different, so we price from a site visit rather than a guess. These are the things that change the scope and cost most.
- Existing service size and meter location
- Overhead versus underground service
- Utility requirements and scheduling
- Grounding, bonding and code corrections
- Distance to new equipment such as chargers or batteries
Smart panels
A smart panel replaces or supplements your breaker panel with circuits you can monitor and control from your phone. Paired with a battery or generator, it can prioritize essential loads during an outage. We will tell you honestly whether a smart panel is worth it for your home or whether a conventional upgrade does the job.
Common questions
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Common signs: you are adding major equipment (EV charger, heat pump, battery), breakers trip often, the panel is a brand insurers flag, there is no room for new circuits, or you are on 100-amp service. We can confirm with a load calculation.
How long is the power off?
For most panel replacements, the power is off for part of one day. Service upgrades depend on utility scheduling. We plan the shutdown with you in advance.
Do you work with Redding Electric Utility and PG&E?
Yes. Redding is served by Redding Electric Utility, and much of the surrounding county is PG&E. We coordinate with whichever utility serves your property.
Can you replace a panel my insurance company flagged?
Yes. Hazard panel replacement is common work for us, and we provide documentation of the completed upgrade.
