Fire-resistant siding, soffits & eaves
The exterior wall is the house's shield. We replace vulnerable siding, protect the base of the wall, and box or harden eaves so embers and heat have less to work with.
Wood siding, aging trim and open eaves give embers and radiant heat places to start. The base of the wall is especially exposed: embers pile up there, and combustible siding that runs close to the ground or to a deck surface can ignite from a small fire nearby.
We replace combustible siding with fiber cement and other noncombustible or ignition-resistant materials, install a noncombustible zone at the base of the wall, and enclose or harden eaves and soffits. Most importantly, we handle the transitions: where siding meets the roof, deck, foundation, windows and fences, because that is where many hardening jobs leave gaps.
What affects the scope
Every property is different, so we price from a site visit rather than a guess. These are the things that change the scope and cost most.
- Square footage and wall height
- Existing siding type and number of layers
- Dry rot or damage hidden behind siding
- Eave depth and whether eaves are open
- Window and door trim details
How it works
- 01
Site visit
We look at the property and the specific conditions, and talk through what you want to accomplish.
- 02
Clear scope & estimate
You get a written scope that explains what we recommend, why, and what can be phased.
- 03
Build
Owner-led work, documented with photos, including anything concealed before it's covered.
- 04
Walkthrough
We review the finished work with you and leave you with the documentation.
Common questions
Is fiber cement siding fireproof?
No siding is fireproof. Fiber cement is noncombustible, which means it does not add fuel, and it performs far better than wood or vinyl in wildfire conditions. Performance still depends on the full wall assembly and its details.
Do I have to replace all my siding at once?
Not always. We can phase the work, starting with the most exposed walls and the base of the wall, then complete the rest later.
What happens if you find rot behind the siding?
We document it with photos, explain the options and price the repair before continuing. Rot repair is part of our core experience, so it is handled the right way rather than covered over.
